Dr. Michael W. Hines

Senior Director of Strategic Innovation and Academic Initiatives

Dr. Michael W. Hines is the new Senior Director of Strategic Innovation and Academic Initiatives. In this critical role, Dr. Hines is responsible for leveraging the collective strengths of our member institutions—Clark Atlanta University, Morehouse College, Morehouse School of Medicine, and Spelman College, —to drive initiatives that foster learning, collaboration, and innovation.

Dr. Hines’ exceptional skills related to collaboration, project management, program development, stakeholder relations, and his strong commitment to higher education make him a valuable addition to our leadership team. His work will be instrumental in advancing the AUCC’s strategic vision and expanding opportunities for our students and institutions.

Dr. Hines reports directly to the Executive Director/CEO, Dr. Michael Hodge, and facilitates the AUCC departments of Career Services, the AUCC Symphony Orchestra and the Center for Excellence in Public and Government Service.  Additionally, Dr. Hines serves as a strategic advisor to the Executive Director focusing on the following key areas:

  1. Strategic Program Development

Dr. Hines leads the development and implementation of new, high-impact programs that align with the AUCC’s mission of fostering a thriving learning environment and enhancing cultural engagement. He works to identify opportunities to expand and improve existing initiatives, ensuring they meet the evolving needs of our students, faculty, and stakeholders.

  1. Collaboration and Connectivity

A critical part of Dr. Hines’ role is facilitating communication and collaboration among AUCC’s member institutions. By promoting the sharing of knowledge and best practices, he works closely with other AUCC staff to ensure alignment and synergy of strategic initiatives, inter-institutional partnerships, and external collaborations.

  1. Resource Management

Dr. Hines, along with other AUCC staff is tasked with securing the necessary resources—both financial and organizational—to support strategic initiatives as well as operations

  1. Outreach and Advocacy

In his role, Dr. Hines  represents the AUCC at conferences, meetings, and public events to promote the consortium’s mission and the positive impact of its strategic initiatives. He also advocates for policies that support the AUCC’s goals of enhancing education and cultural engagement, and develop partnerships with government agencies, nonprofit organizations, and the private sector.

Dr. Hines formerly served as Project Manager of the National Data Science Alliance (NDSA) and a member of the backbone team and senior personnel, leading the coordination efforts across the alliance and implementation of NDSA’s core strategies and activities.
